Custom Screen Saver?

Hi there:

I've seen some posts on this, but can't find what might work for me. I have a Kobo Libra H2O.

This is exceedingly geeky, but I thought it would be cool to design a bookplate to show when my kobo is asleep. Basically, I just want it to show an image of my choosing when the reader is asleep. Somewhere I saw that this could be done by adding a folder to the root of the kobo device called "screensaver" and adding an image. This didn't work for me, the image just came in as a book.

Any suggestions?

Help hard drive crash, getting non drm books off Kobo

Hi,

I recently had a hard drive crash and had to reinstall Calibre. I lost my Calibre library (it was on the c drive).

Is there any way to recover the books from my Kobo? When I look into my kobo Aura with Windows 10, all I see are empty directories with no epubs.

Problem with epub comics

I have a problem with my Clara HD, I have comics in epub format (I also have a copy of them in kepub obtained with kepubify) CALIBRE can read them without problems, but the Kobo shows me the images in the upper left and smaller and for comics in epub the pages take a long time to load (in kepub it is fast to turn the page, but the problem of small images still remains)

Screenshots appearing in My Books screen

I have a Clara HD, and I periodically find that what appears to be a screenshot shows up in the list of books when I go to the My Books screen - see below.

I recall that with a Aura HD that I used to have, it was possible to take screenshots, but when I did so, they didn't show up in My Books. I haven't tried to take any screenshots with the Clara HD - don't even know if that capability still exists - so I don't know where these are coming from. Can anyone tell me what causes them and how to prevent them? The Clara is running current 4.20.14622 firmware, but this problem has been happening for a considerable time with multiple FW levels.

Rapid page flipping skips first pages of chapters

On my Kobo Clara HD, I have confirmed this problem with both purchased and imported .kepub.epub books:

Doing a continuous press on the lower right corner of the screen is supposed to rapidly page through a book, right? Repeatedly, though, I see the paging skip the first (and sometimes the second) pages of new chapters. It's as if the time it takes to load the next chapter from the archive that is the ePub file is not accounted for.

The easiest way to see this bug is simply to do the long press and watch the page numbers in the page header. You'll see things such as:

Aura H2O2 Aura H2O freezing after page turns

My Aura H2O 2nd edition started freezing after about 1-2 taps. I think it began after I updated the firmware to the most recent, as it was working fine a few weeks ago.

I did a repair which didn't help, then a factory reset which also didn't help. When it freezes, it takes about 15 seconds to unfreeze. If I've tapped more than once while frozen, it'll jump ahead when it wakes up.

Sometimes the blue light flashes a few times and it restarts. It's okay again for a few taps, then we're right back to frozen.

I've used 3.1GB of the 8 on board.

I'm not sure what else I can try - suggestions? The reader is just over a year old.

Forma the lightness of background light is not auto

i just noticed that the the lightness of backgroud light is not auto, natural light is auto. i need to adjust the lightness maually everytime. is it correct?

Font shows up as four fonts

Hi,

I use several third party fonts on my Kobo Clara HD without issue.

Today I downloaded a font in OTF format. I used Cloudconvert.com to convert the OTF files to TTF. Then I gave them the familiar names: FontName-Regular, Italic, Bold and BoldItalic.

Now when I go to my font menu, this font shows as four fonts: FontName-Book (?), BookItalic, Bold and BoldItalic.

Is there anything I did wrong? Any idea what I could do to fix it?

"Purchase history" on web site times out

If I click on "Purchase History" on the website there is a long delay then I get:

I have asked Kobo about this before and was told it's because I have too many books.

I didn't think it really mattered since it was basically cosmetic and
I could get much the same information from my super points dashboard.

However, I have since learned that if I change my mind about a pre-order I can't change it from the page about the book itself, I need to go into my purchase history. Which of course I can't do.

How many books is "too many"? Surely I can't be the only person with this problem. How long has it existed? I appreciate there are worse problems in the world, especially right now.

Looking for a way to transfer books from an Android device to a Kobo Aura 2

As I'm nearly always on the road without access to a computer, I'm looking for a way to transfer files from my phone (android) to a Kobo Aura 2.

I've installed KSM and Koreader. I was hoping this would let me connect with USB-OTG, but if it's possible I can't figure out how. Any help here?

I tried connecting with sftp using the ghost commander plugin(an android app), setting Koreader to no password, and having both devices connected to the same wifi network, but no luck.

All I can think of now is to plug the SD into a card-reader, connect it to the phone with OTG, copy, and then put the SD back into the Kobo Aura, but it means prying open the plastic on the back of the device every time as there is no slot.

Any other creative or perhaps straightforward solutions?

Seems like everything is there to make this happen; webbrowsers, internet access, usb support.. but I just don't see the way.

I am looking for a fb terminal that can handle a chroot debian xserver. I couldn't get the Xserver working neither on pbchess or KOreader. I tried to compile fbpad-eink but i always got errors.

Widows and Orphans

This might be the wrong place for this post, but I'm having issues with widows and orphans on my Clara HD. I followed the steps to remove widows and orphans when converting books to epub. However, some still have inconsistent bottom margins even after this process. I downloaded The Wheel of Osheim and by Mark Lawrence and The Silver Tide by Jen Williams from Amazon. Different publishers, both AZW3, and still had inconsistent bottom margins after conversion to epub following the widows and orphans process. Is there anything else I can do?

Libra Libra special usb lead?

Does the Libra require a special usb lead? If so what does it require?

The reason for the question is that yesterday I had just finished doing some file management on my Android tablet and ejected it. I then grabbed the Libra to stick a couple of books on it, plugged it into the same lead and it did not show up in Finder (Mac) but the Libra had asked if I wanted to connect to the computer as usual and I answered yes and I got the usual screen on the Libra. I tried a different usb port and still the same. Got the lead out that came with the Libra and it then appeared correctly in Finder and Calibre.

Trick : enable landscape or portrait

Hi guys,

I just want to give you a little trick : with FW 4.19.x and above, if you don't have a Kobo Forma or Kobo Libra H2O eReader (because this function already exists on thoose 2 devices), you can activate an icon to choose landscape or portrait (except on mini).

To activate this icon, you just have to activate the developer mode : edit Kobo eReader.conf (you will find it in .kobo/Kobo folder (notepad ++ recommend if you use windows) and add this line to [DeveloperSettings] (if you can't find [DeveloperSettings], add this line too).

You will have something like this :

[DeveloperSettings]
ForceAllowLandscape=true

Save the file, eject your device and restart the Kobo. The auto-rotate icon will appear at the top of the desktop !

Aura H2O2 Kobo Aura H2O disappears from laptop

When I connect the Kobo Aura H2o 2ed to my laptop (Windows 10 pro, 8GB ram, proc. Intel I3 5005U), the Kobo is recognized and appears among the connected devices but is immediately disconnected.
USB and cable are OK.
Do you have any suggestions on this behavior?

Aura HD What's wrong with my e reader?

First of all I'm very new to the scene of E readers, 2 weeks ago I purchased a secondhand e-reader and it worked very well!

Worked as in, it doesn't work anymore.

Now I'll start with what happened first, the screen showed my book and the word sleeping, so naturally I slid the red button to bring it back. It did nothing, not even the LED light blinked.

I charged it also with various cables, ports what not but still nothing.

Also tried the little reset hole with various tools, also took the e-reader apart in case maybe the sd card or something like that didn't work, but when I swapped out the sd card and copied the contents (also tried copying some firmware update onto the kobo folder) but nothing changed.

What I must note is that when I plug in the device I do get the little windows sound but the device doesn't appear like it used to.

Maybe if someone also wonders this, when I plug it into the pc and press the little reset button, windows again makes the little notification sound.

Hope ya'll can do something with this info, feel free to ask for any other information.

Reset reading stats

Hi,

With all last FW (4.19 and 4.20 and perhaps before), how can we do to reset statistics? with ancient FW we could toggle the reading stats off and back on to reset them but I can't find where to do it now?

Forma Battery life?

i recently bought an kobo forma , i used this quarantine for read every One piece in my kobo forma , but my battery is discharged realy fast ( maybe 10 hours reading , with light @ 20-30% )

is it normal ?

Glo Kobo Glo N613 - Usb error : Device not detected

Hello,

I am struggling with my Kobo Glo N613 that is not recognized anymore by windows 10 while using the USB cable (code 43 error, Device not detected) and would need help.

I did many unsuccessful tests :

1/ test with another usb cable
2/ reset the battery of my Laptop
3/ uninstall and reconnect using the Device Manager
4/ install the latest windows updates
5/ reinstall usb controllers (Device Manager + reboot)
6/ disable USB selective suspend settings
7/ update the BIOS of my laptop
8/ reinstall windows 10 on my laptop
9/ test with Ubuntu instead of Windows 10

and eventually …

10/ factory reset of the Kobo Glo

After the factory reset, I am not able to upgrade anymore my Kobo (through wifi => systematic error while looking for upgrade, through USB => code 43 error Device not detected).

Any idea on how to proceed to recover my Kobo ?
