Problem with Loading back to Nickel from KSM 09

I had noticed this problem since a few months back, but I had no use of Nickel since, so I just ignored the issue. However this month I use Pocket a lot, so I want to go back and forth between Nickel and KSM 09, but whenever I try to choose Nickel from KSM, it only shows me the loading screen (3 dots instead of the previous 5 squares from a few firmwares ago) but no Nickel.

I put the latest Kobo Firmware (Mark 5, 4.19.14123, I use Aura) in .Kobo, but if I do a controlled update, my Nickel installation failed (can't go to Nickel still). If I do uncontrolled update, I basically fresh-installing my device, so I need to reinstall KSM again.

This has happened about 3 times now (fresh-installing Nickel firmware, reinstall KSM, copying Koreader, Plato, and Coolreader to .adds, then boot to KSM, but I can't go back to Nickel again).

Anyone with the same issue or any workaround?

Thanks!

Aura H2O Accident: now wipe my data

Hi,

My Aura H2O fell about one floor down on a stairway. In spite that it had a hard cover protection and that there is no visible damage on it, it does not work anymore.

I hoped that some internal component got disconnected by the hit. no luck: even inside, no visible damage, no disconnected parts... The device is dead, so I bought another one.

Now, I wanted to do two things:
1. Give it for free to some hobbyist, in case anyone is interested (*)
2. Wipe my data first. And here comes my question: I disassembled the e-reader, so I could extract the micro SD card. It contains two ext3 partitions of about 268 MB each. They appear to be the same. I suppose that one is the one that boots (booted, in my case) the operating system, while the other one might be a recovery one in case the first gets corrupted. Then there is the FAT32 partition with the books.

Questions:

Where are my WIFI, Kobo account, Pocket account, data stored? I would like to erase that, but, if possible, I would like not to erase the operating system, in case someone would want to reuse the SD card.
I see that the FAT32 partition contains some hidden folders:

.adobe-digital-editions
.kobo
.kobo-images

which contain some sub-folders...

Anyone can give me some hints?

On the other hand, if someone repairs it and puts an empty SD card in it, would there be a way make it work?

(*) there is no sign of life: no led when pushing the on/off switch, and no USB drive gets activated when connected to the computer. My impression is that something on the motherboard is damaged, but so the battery and the screen must be still ok.

Hello,

I have just bricked my KOBO Clara, and my image seems to have disappeared from my folder.
Who can help me with an image of the SD-card please?

P.S. Did anyboy had the same problem with win32diskimager. I have used this image to restore the SD-card to original, just to test the feature. This worked fine, but apparently after writing to the SD-Card, the software automatically deletes the image from the harddisc......

Hello,

I have installed KSM + latest KOReader on a fresh Libra H2O. I can't seem to find where i can set the default orientation mode; we need the device to be always in landscape mode. Can someone tell me how this can be done? Ideally we want to startup KSM in landascape mode; after 1 minute of no input it shoud startup KOReader in landscape mode.

Thanks in advance!

Transferring books from iPad to Kobo

Hey guys! So bear with me, I’m a bit of a noob when it comes to electronics. I’ve searched for the answer online but couldn’t find it.

So I used someone’s iPad Pro and with a USB-C to USB hub, I was able to connect my Kobo, download books on the iPad, and transfer them from the Folder app to my Kobo by just dragging them, as the iPad recognized my kobo as a device.

I have an older iPad (7th Gen) so I’m not sure if it’ll work or not

Thanks so much!

And got me a Libra in white for Christmas for myself and the rose case. Now I was worried I was wasting money. I now get why people like it. I honestly did not think it could be better than my 6.8 H20 but it is noticeably faster and looks really sharp. Like it more than my kindle oasis actually and I was impressed it charged super fast. It charged 10x faster than my other kobos. I can not wait to finish my current ebooks so I can start reading on this:thumbsup:

Kobo Problem

Ok. So I have been trying to upload books to my Kobo.

I've tried copying my books over manually, copying my folder full of books via file browser to the Kobo, over the USB cable.

It only ended up picking up and showing that there were just over 2,000 books on there, instead of the 3,400 or so I tried copying over. The files were PHYSICALLY on the Kobo (via file browser), but it wouldn't pull them up on the Kobo itself. All in mobi or epub format.

Looking at it via Calibre didn't fix the problem.

So I tried using Calibre to do the actual copying of the files over to the Kobo, and it will only copy a few books at a time before CALIBRE crashes. And it's a random number of books - I've copied hundreds, I've copied less than 50 at a time - and Calibre would crash.

Also - if it crashes while copying books over, those books won't show up on the kobo.

Any ideas?

Libra How to copy statistics

Hello guys! A friend recommended me this site to find answers to a lot of doubts on Kobo devices.
In particular, I'm going to buy the new Kobo Libra (at the moment I've an old Kobo Aura, 1st version) and I would like to know if it's possible to copy the statistics from older to new (so books read and hours of reading).
I installed "Kobo utilities" on Calibre and set to backup the database. But then? How will the data be copied on the new Kobo?
Thanks a lot if you can help me!

Clara HD EPUB completely blank (aside from cover)

Hi there,

This is my first post here, so I apologize in advance if I do anything wrong.

I have (very) recently purchased a Kobo Clara HD, mainly because I wanted to be able to side-load EPUBs onto it. I've read 2 books without problems so far, but I'm now facing an annoying issue with the third book.

When I open it, I can see the cover picture normally, but everything else is blank. The interesting part is that I can still access the table of contents and navigate through the chapters, but they're all blank.

I did some research and found this thread:

https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=270096

which kind of reports the same problem I'm seeing. I did what was suggested (i.e., edited the book with Calibre, checked for errors, corrected as many of them as I could), but the problem still persists. Currently, I'm seeing 3 warnings on Calibre's editor:

Quote:

WARNING: The CSS font-family name Minion Pro does not match the actual font name Minion****[page_styles1.css]
WARNING: The CSS font-family name Minion Pro does not match the actual font name Minion****[page_styles1.css]
WARNING: The CSS font-family name Minion Pro does not match the actual font name Minion****[page_styles1.css]
I think these should not interfere with the rendering, but I'm not absolutely sure.

Does anyone know what could be causing this, and how I can try to solve the problem? Any advice is welcome; I'm really new to the e-reader scenario.

Thanks in advance!

P.S.: I'm running the latest available stock firmware, without any third-party programs. I can post more information about the book if needed.

Maximum practical files number?

I note that the Kobo description on a couple of the current 8 GB Kobo readers lists their capacity as up to 5000 books. Is this genuine or a exaggeration? At what number of files does the response deteriorate to unacceptable levels or things start to hang up or crash intermittently?

Kobo Wifi (N647) Solution for cracked D-Pad?

Hi everyone - My first post on this forum.

I dragged my Kobo out of the cupboard the other day and marvelled that it still charged up. Though it looks like it doesnt last too long. I guess not surprising for something that is around 9 years old (or so).
I have seen it doesnt look too hard or expensive to replace a battery -so may give that a go.

It is still a joy to use, but the silicon D-Pad has a bit of a crack in it and that will get worse.

Is there a good solution to a the D-Pad problem - Can't see anything like a replacement solution online. What have others done?

Any suggestions or advice?

Kobo updated and now has 189 "books" from fonts/system files

The battery was dead in my Kobo and I charged it. Once I unlocked it there was a message about an update that could not install due to the battery percentage and once I dismissed the update started.

When the Kobo came back up I had 259 books instead of 70. I tried to open the library and the Kobo crashed. It took about 2 minutes or so to get back to the home screen. I was then able to open the library which still said it had 259 books.

Here is a picture.

I have tried to do a repair and that did not get rid of the books. Connecting the Kobo to the PC does not show any of the files listed. Rebuilding in Calibre does not fix it either.

Right now it looks like my only solution is to factory reset the Kobo to fix this issue. I cannot find any other similar cases online like this.

Aura ONE ...does a lazarus...

OK so my three year old Aura One died Xmas Eve. I read it in the bath a lot, and one night I picked it upp off my bedside cabinet and a little water (about 5-10ml) came out - I guess from condensation, and the touchscreen wouldn't function.

Rebooted - nothing - tried all the factory reset procedures and had a varying success of flashing multicoloured led's, odd screens with weird sync symbols and triangle symbols - but no boot.

Ho hum - three years old and all that, and it's been my most used electronic device. So after Xmas my wife bought me a Oasis 3 for birthday/xmas joint present.

Anyway - today I tried, out of interest - to reboot my Aura One. It then got to the reset/reload firmware screen but was really sluggish - it did however let me connect it to my Mac for Kobo Desktop to rebuild it. A few reboots were sluggish but now it seems absolutely fine.

Well my wife had a Glo so she now has an Aura One! I don't know if I can rely on it but my wife will happily use it knowing she has a Glo to fall back on.

My only thought is the water resistant coating has deteriorated and the water was shorting things out, but over time it has dried out - has anyone else got any knowledge about whether that's a possibility? As I do most of my reading in the bath (I am a reincarnated Golgafrincham Captain it seems!) I think that seems likely!

Clara HD Auto-booting KOReader on KSM

Hi guys, first time posting here.
I hope this is the right place to ask this.

I'm sure this must have been asked before, but installed KSM just the other day, very pleased with it so far, sure gives me some more control over my Clara HD.

So, I'd like to ask if it's possible to auto-boot KOReader a few seconds after KSM.
I couldn't find anything on the KSM thread.
Is there an .ini I can edit to make it so?

Thank you for any kind of help, and happy new year!

Thank you patchers!

I got my Kobo Libra just a little while back, but I didn’t take the time to patch it. And for a bit, I thought the Libra was fine without any patch.

Oh boy was I wrong.

I patched it yesterday. I don’t use that many patches, but you gotta love the reduced footer and header.

Anyways, just wanted to say a big :thanks:

The patchers are such a big part of what makes the Kobo even greater.

Touch About compiling the kernel (actually `g_ether' for now)

Hey guys!

I plan on spending some time tinkering with a spare N905 I have, and would like to be able to telnet or ssh to it through USB.

I have upgraded it to the newest firmware available, have gained telnet access, have installed the toolchain (linaro-4.9.4-2017.01-x86_64_arm-linux-gnueabihf), and have used it to compile and run FBink, so it should work as expected.

Because of the module versions problem, I'm gonna need to compile the `g_ether' module, so I headed to kobolabs' hw github repository for the imx508, and I see two folders: `cls' and `nxt'. On both I can see a kernel matching what my `uname' currently reports: `Linux (none) 2.6.35.3-568-g4cf53cf-gb548272-dirty' but what folder is the one I should choose, and what's the meaning for both folders?

Whichever it is, I guess it will be a fully working kernel for the device? Not that I plan compiling the whole kernel yet, but would like to know that diff'ing it with a vanilla 2.6.35.3 would result in having the patches Freescale/nxp/kobo made for it to work.

This is the output my `/proc/cpuinfo' if it's of any help, as I know there are a couple of versions of N905 ot there:

Code:

Processor      : ARMv7 Processor rev 5 (v7l)
BogoMIPS        : 159.90
Features        : swp half thumb fastmult vfp edsp neon vfpv3
CPU implementer : 0x41
CPU architecture: 7
CPU variant    : 0x2
CPU part        : 0xc08
CPU revision    : 5

Hardware        : Freescale MX50 ARM2 Board
Revision        : 50011
Serial          : 0000000000000000

Or if more details are needed I can provide them.

Current status of vlavasoft: coolreader?

Hey Folks,
I've read the last many pages of the vlavasoft thread and it looks like development stopped a while ago. The last commit at github.com/sergeyvl/vlasovsoft was five years ago.

I really like coolreader, I've been using it on Kobo devices for many years. Currently on an H2O but that device is getting worn out (battery only lasts a few days) so I'm thinking about getting an Aura One.

I haven't really kept up with the forums. I got my H2O setup like I wanted it 4-5yrs ago and then sort of drifted away from mobileread.

Without having to spend hours piecing together the whole story, what is the status of getting coolreader working on Aura One?

Thanks!!!!!!!!!!
