How to put a series in read order under collections

I have been entering/sideloading my Dad's old sci-fi pulp/paperback books into my Kobo Glo (4.19). With the present author (Poul Anderson,) he has 3 series (Flandry, Psychodynamic, Technic). I figured out how to create a Collection for the current books (Psychodynamic) on the Glo directly. I did not see an option to have this Collection sort by order they should be read in to achieve plot/history chronology. Is this possible directly on the Glo without using Calibre?
I did a search on the Kobo reader forum for "Collection" and spent 1/2-1 hour going through recent results (limited to this year since I do not know when the software changed to Collections tab) and found nothing but information about Calibre.
I am basically entering books alphabetically by title, which means the Collections order could change each time a book is sideloaded. I do not mind manually changing numbers each time directly on the Glo. I want to be able to change this information directly on the device when I travel as I would not have access to my computer. I am absentminded and usually forget to update information on the computer or even write myself a note to do so.

Clara HD Hiding Kobo "cloud" books

I just purchased a Clara HD, my first eReader. I picked it because I want to manage my eBook library through Calibre. However, I immediately ran into a (major!) gotcha, and I can't find a way around it...

In order to configure the new device, I need to sign into my Kobo account. Otherwise, it never gets past the "Download Kobo Desktop" screen on the device.

So, I downloaded their app. I then stopped it from sync'ing all my (1100-plus) Kobo purchases to the device and told it to delete the ones it had already downloaded. Then I deleted the Kobo app, which I don't use, and loaded a few books from Calibre to play with. That part was easy.

Unfortunately, it retained my entire book list and if I try to do an author search, it shows me ALL of it. So if I load 50 books from calibre, say, then look at the authors listing, it shows me 1150 author records... Not very useful, since it makes working with the 50 real books impossible.

I tried the Kobo help line, and their only advice was to archive every one of my purchased books (and as far as I can figure it can only be done one at a time), and resync....

Please, please, tell me there's a way around this. Either a way to get it into working mode without signing into my Kobo account, or a way to completely hide the Cloud books from all sorts and searches and work only with what is actually aboard the device.

Epub not remembering where I am

I use a Kobo Aura H20. It has e pubs bought from kobo, some direct from authors and some brought from amazon and converted to epub using calibre.
Occasionally I come across a book that always opens on the first page. I usually open the contents page and click the nearest chapter that i remember and scroll the rest of the way. Clicking the chapter puts a tick by that chapter but the next time I open the book the tick as gone back to the first chapter. I tried bookmarking the page but nothing shows up in annotations.
As it is only on a few books by the time I get round to investigating I've forgotten which ones so not sure if they are converted or not!
I am fairly sure it is a book problem not a Kobo problem as it only occurs occasionally.
Anyone got any idea what causes this and is there an easy way to fix in Calibre (I don't currently touch any of the conversion options on Mobi files just go with the default)
I'll try and remember to note down the book next time it happens.

Kobo Desktop

I have seen posts here both pro and con for the Kobo Desktop. I haven't installed it yet on my new windows 10 computer. But I am wondering if I should install it.
Could people please give me your ideas on the advantages of having the Kobo Desktop on my pc vs not having it there. I do lean toward installing it, but believe its better to test the waters before diving in. :book2:

Forma Forma in landscape- surprinsgly useful

Up until now, I've never read in landscape mode on any of my ereaders. It just is not practical. I don't think it was possible anyway on any of my Kobos outside of using KOReader.



With the Forma, CoG is lower when reading in landscape mode and the balance is really nice as well. I have both buttons set to go "next". Reading in landscape mode is very nice on the Forma. Something I never thought I would do.

Disable Activity tracking?

In previous Kobo firmware, one could disable "Activity" tracking by unchecking "Automatically share data about the features you use" in Settings.

In the latest firmware (4.19.14123), my Kobo is now tracking my reading habits and gamifying the experience with medals and achievements. I would like to disable this for a host of reasons.

Is there any way to have my Kobo stop tracking these stats and disable "Activity" tracking once again? There's a patch to remove "Activity" from the dropdown menu, but I don't believe this actually disables tracking.

Arc Can't connect wifi for the first installation

Hi everybody !

A friend of mine gave me a Kobo Arc 7 after he did a factory reboot.

Now when a turn on the tablet, it ask me to choose the language, after that i have a screen witch ask me to select a wifi network.
I select it, the kobo briefly connects, it says searching update for a second, then it stops and display no wifi connection it appear that you have a problem with your connection.

I tried with several others wifi networks and it's the same.

The i tried to do the first installation with kobo desktop but il does not work, the pc recognize the kobo but the program stays with the screen connect your kobo and the tablet keeps asking me fot a wifi network !:blink:

Kobo Configuration Options

Hi everyone,

I've recently been attempting to document the options in the kobo configuration file. (Kobo eReader.conf), and have been trying to put together a wiki page with information on all of the options. I extracted most of the options out of libnickel.so and and have put them onto the wiki page.

Could anyone who knows what some of the options marked as UNKNOWN do please either edit the page (linked below), or reply in this thread with what it does.

There are 2 tables for each group (not all of them are added yet though), and if you know what an unknown one does move it to the Working table.

Aura E2 Numbers within Series Collection part 2

Not sure if this is a Kobo thing or Calibre, but I think it's Kobo since this has just occurred since the recent update.
I load my books through Calibre and since the recent update my series numbers are missing from my collections once it is loaded to the Kobo.
This first pic shows the Collection name followed by the series number under the title.
The second pic is of books added today missing this.

Does anybody have any ideas how to fix this? I loaded a lot of books today.

Libra integration with pocket ?

i see my new kobo has this feature

a quick google suggests its a bit like the send to Kindle system that I have used before, but I have to create a pocket account, add a browser extension...

I am asking here for feedback from others who use it with Kobo readers e.g. how useful is it, do you then leave the kobo wifi on so that it will always sync new stuff, what impact does that have on battery life...

I dont know for sure if all the Kobo range has this, or only some of teh newer models.
I tried searching for "pocket" in this forum but there was no obvious discussion thread - if I missed one, please point me at it

I'm considering an ereader (don't want Amazon) and looking at the kobo. I was wondering that if I added my 3rd party owned books (drm free) would it be available on kobo desktop app and save my location as well?

Forma Sleepcover issues on Forma

Hi,

I've just bought a Kobo Forma, together with the official Kobo Forma Sleepcover.

When I want to hold the ereader like a regular book and fold the cover so he attaches to the back, my ereader goes into sleep mode after a few page turns.

I've contacted support about this, and they reported it's 'by design' because the magnet is also detected from the backside of the cover.

Browsing around the internet I've encountered quite a bit of posts where people are using their sleepcover like I do, without any issues. Which makes me believe it's not really 'by design'.

The only problem is: is it the cover or is it the ereader itself that's the cause?

Is there anyone that has encountered the same problem?

(forma has been updated to the december 2019 firmware, 4.19.14123)

Glo HD and sync problem

Lately my Glo HD has not been syncing well. It is very slow to load content and covers, drops the wifi connection and often gets stuck on Updating Annotations. I've done a restore and disconnected from network then reconnected. Does anyone have any suggestions to fix or an idea what could be causing this? Thanks

How do I undo all the patches/restore firmware?

I installed an adblock patch using KoboRoot.tgz, and it broke the fonts for my language. There is no uninstall option like the other patches, so I tried another koboroot.tgz with a bare minimum /etc/hosts file, but the fonts are still missing, although when I go to detectadblock.com, it tells me I'm not blocking any ads. I tried factory reset, and downloading the firmware manually to .kobo. Both times, the kobo reset everything, but the font is still missing, and I see the default settings for the miniclock addon. How do I completely restore the clara hd so that all the patches are reverted?

Kobo with Overdrive strangeness

C.S. Lewis' Screwtape Letters was borrowed for me from our library via Overdrive today (I had put it on hold a few weeks ago). I saw that it was available in my email and thought, "this will be a good test for the Aura 2." No luck. What's weird is that it showed the book in my library and offers to place a hold on it, but it won't let me download it or recognize that I've already borrowed it? I checked the ISBN for the Kobo Store version and the Overdrive version and they're the same. So a new wrinkle of weirdness in this process.

EDIT: It looks like the problem was the software between my ears. I guess you need to sync. When I did that it came right up. Sorry.

I just went ahead and downloaded it on the Tolino.

EDIT: Now I'll have to remember to return the book from the Kobo first. Last time I returned it from the Tolino and (even though the library said it was returned) the Kobo said there was an issue trying to return the book and wouldn't let me do it. So I had to wait the 21 days on the Kobo (even though the book was already read and returned).

Newer kernel on Kobo Mini/Touch/Glo?

Hi,

I'm able to run Marek's images on a Kobo Mini, I'm experimenting with other ones.
I'd like to get proficient enough to integrate some newer, changes, e.g. Giorgio multitouch driver. I'd also like to update the Linux kernel in it, so I can have access to modern software.

Is it even possible? Reading through Debian ARM documentation it seems that CPU is fully capable of running Debian Buster, but I don't know what's the blob situation.

Also, I've done a lot of digging, but I'm still unsure about how would I go about doing that. Once I have working configuration, is it just a matter of replacing the zImage and adding my own stuff to the startup scripts most of the various images around here have? I'd be grateful for a basic, high-level instruction on, let's say, how to replicate Marek's work.

Kobo SD Card

I bought two old kobo wireless ereaders from shopgoodwill about a year ago both for under 10 dollars. One Kobo worked fine until and update which rendered it useless. I search revealed this kobo has a memory card which can be flashed so maybe one day I'll bring it back to life. The other kobo had a D-pad which crumbled so for a time I used it as a picture viewer. Then I needed a memory card for my kindle fire so I decided to swap out the kobo sd card to the fire. The SD card reformated fine but later I got a warning about the SD card being too slow. Since I don't plan on watching movies on my fire tablet is it safe to leave the kobo sd card or is it simply too slow/old?

Kobo Aura One Cannot Boot - Blank Screen

I have the original Kobo Aura One, and this weekend it only show blank page.
I tried to reset it but it doesn't responding.

When I did that, sometimes the led on the top right is blinking but nothing else happened.
Most of the times, pressing the button on the back doesn't result in anything.

When connected to a PC via USB, it doesn't show as device.

Any idea what else I can do?

Aura ONE No longer able to open any books

Hi,

After I copied one new book to my Aura using calibre, I am no longer able to read any books on it. Whatever the book I open, I got a message that Adobe DRM licence is expired, even if I open a book that does not have any drm.

It also removed all the shelves that were predent before.

I never used any ADE release and have only no DRM books.
