I've manually added three fonts to my Kobo Forma: Bitter, Bookerly and Literata. I've done this the proper way, AFAIK: each font contains four files, correctly named, and I've put them in the folder "font" in the root of the device.
The fonts show up in the list of fonts, but so do these fonts:
KBJ-TsukuMinPr6N-RB
KBJ-UDKakugo Pr6N M
I'm not sure if these are new fonts, different names for any of the added fonts, or different names for factory fonts that had a more recognizable name before I fiddled with it.
Can somebody enlighten me?
It's not much of a problem, I'm just wondering.

Does anybody know how to (properly) reset the Kobo Forma? I don't mean a factory reset, just a restart.
It's not that I haven't managed to do so. But the how remains opaque to me, weirdly. What I've done is just pressed the on/off button for an unconscionable amount of time. Usually nothing happens. Then I release it, and press it again... and usually it will then restart.
But that's a little haphazard. What's the proper procedure?
As far as I can see, the Kobo online help pages only provide explanation about a basic reset for other moddels (with a hole you can press a paperclip iin) and for a factory reset (which is not what I want). Or did I overlook a help page?

A day ago I contacted Kobo customer support to see if I could get a refund for a book that I accidentally bought twice (it now has a new URL). The CSR somehow managed to mess up my library, so that almost all of my books were missing from my library, but he assured me that he could fix it. When I checked about 8 hours later, I was still missing about 25% of my books, so I contacted customer support again, and the second CSR said that I had a lot of deleted books, but I could restore them at the website under the Purchase History page. I probably could, if it didn't error out every time I bring up the Purchase History page. The second CSR offered to reset my books, and now I'm only missing about 50 books (no idea which ones, of course). I just checked a book out from Overdrive with my Clara HD, and now none of my ereaders will sync, they all fail. I don't know whether it's related to the damage the first CSR did to my library, but the timing makes me wonder.
I don't really want to do a factory reset of my readers, since it means that at least 50 ebooks will disappear from them and it will take a couple days to reload them. I was wondering what the other option in the Advanced section of Device Information does, "Repair your Kobo Account"? Will it delete any books from my reader when it "refreshes all of your books and collections"?

Hey Folks,
I heard that Kobo e-readers cannot manipulate the weight of side-loaded fonts, unless the user installs a patch. Is there a post in this forum where I can download the patch? Are patches easy to install? I have no programming experience, but I've watched a few YouTube tutorials on it and it seems fairly straightforward. Will changing the weight of side-loaded fonts mess up the kerning or cause any other problems, like not being able to left-justify?
If the Kobo can change the weight of side-loaded fonts, without messing up the kerning, I will probably buy one (Kobo Clara HD) and install a font that I find very legible: Iowan Old Style.
(I need to quickly decide whether or not to buy the Kobo; I need to buy college textbooks ASAP. I found all my books on the Kobo store).

Hi,
I created a firmware dump tool for Kobo devices but its far from done and i need some help.
You do not have to open up your Kobo and that makes it excellent for all those H2O devices.
Its in an early stage and it this is how it looks:
https://streamable.com/3knah
I need your help in adding devices as the current only support is the:
* Kobo Aura HD
Want support for your device ?, I need the following information:
---
Device Name: Kobo Aura HD
Hardware version: Mark 4
Factory software version: 2.5.0
USB Networking Kernel modules: (in how to load order)
/drivers/ntx508/usb/gadget/arcotg_udc.ko
/drivers/ntx508/usb/gadget/g_ether.ko
---
:thanks:

Hi all! New to Kobo (Clara HD) here. :D
I was surprised to see some big ol' Walmart branding on boot. Sure, I don't shutdown/reboot too often, and it's only in passing, but I'm a grumpy old man who goes to lengths to get rid of stuff like that (it's why I only lasted about a day with a Kindle, which seemed like it was mostly built as a vehicle for ads and Amazon consumption).
Can anyone point me in the right direction for replacing the boot screen graphic? I was surprised to not be able to find any tips on this here, although maybe I'm using the wrong language to search.
I don't mind breaking things. I've been a Linux user since 2005, and love flashing Google-free ROMs on my phones, but in truth I'm an amateur and rely on the instructions of others while tinkering.
Thanks!

I rarely synch my Clara HD, wifi is always turned off.
Now, I cant connect to the wifi.
My Clara HD has the latest firmware and I have just a couple of patch applied, fonts and dictionary.
Ive tried to shut it down and turn it on again. No luck.
Any clue before I try to make a factory reset?

Im very interested in getting a forma, but I read a bunch of theology books that are not available on kobo so Ill be side loading them. Can anyone confirm they have done so and been able get the highlights off to use in writing papers?
Just some format that I can copy and paste and not have to type out?
Also, if possible, what exactly will I need to do?
Thanks for any help you can give me, I wanna kick Amazon to the curb, but need to be able to do this

Hi, I originally posted a question on this forum because thought I had a WiFi timeout problem. Unfortunately it occurs when there is any disturbance in the connection. I am running XCSoar (6.8.11 stable) connected to a T-Beam SoftRF T-Beam device.
The Kobo (Aura 2) only needs to communicate with the IOT T-Beam device sitting near to it in the cockpit of a sailplane. It appears that slight changes in the data from the T-beam are causing the wifi to disconnect (a test Android device listening to the T-beam at the same time does not disconnect producing a continuous GPS logger file. A second Kobo also running XCSoar disconnects at exactly the same time as the first Kobo.
A search on the internet shows that this is a common problem in linux embedded systems. It may have been encountered and solved in KoReader.
It may involve ensuring that the contents of the wpa_supplicant are re-read upon disconnection.
I'd appreciate any guidance on offer.
(When I posted my original WiFi timeout question I tried the solution of ForceWifiOn in [DeveloperSettings] in the config file. (which I took to be the eReader.conf file in the .kobo directory). This has had no effect.

I just bought a Clara HD. So far, I like it a lot. Although the Kobo Android app stinks.
I side loaded several books via USB, into a folder named "MyBooks". They show up just fine on the Clara, and I can read all of them. However, I can't figure out how to sync these books to the Android app, and to Kobo Desktop.
I'm probably doing something wrong. What am I missing?

Hi guys,
First sorry for my very bad english, Im' french.
I've got a Glo (not HD) on which I've added a resistor in order too reduce the brightness since 2013 and all is ok still today after 6 years; I was the first person to ask the question and Yok and others guys have found a solution here :
https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...=200706&page=7 ).
I've got a second kobo (aura HD) and the brightness is too high...
So I've got a question : is there a way with a plugin too reduce brightness on all Kobo devices ? if not, a good solution would be to create a plugin that can divide the settings by 2 or 3 or why not 10, in order to reduce brightness under 1% like 0.1%, 0.2%, etc.
If the brightness slider does not accept a setting under 1%, another solution coud be to mislead the value send to the LEDS (we set 10% on the slider but the real value send is 1%, 9% send 0.9%, etc).
Developers : do you see a solution :chinscratch: , it could be a good challenge, no ?
A good add-on is nightmode, it can be found here :
https://github.com/gtalusan/kobo-nig...de_build13.zip but it doesn't reduce the level of the leds.

I've recently purchased the forma and uploaded all my epubs. I see I can add them into collections manually, is there a quicker way to do this. I was hoping that I could do via the root folder but nothing shows? I haven't really used Calibre much but the tags look ideal. I've read a few tuts on bookshelves but I'm not clear if thats the same thing I'm trying to achieve?

It seems like the Pocket app has significant trouble with long articles on my Aura One. For example, Wikipedia articles of any length will lead to 30s+ page turns and an eventual reboot. Pocket support was helpful, but eventually let me know that the app is written and maintained by Kobo and its pretty clearly an app specific issue. Kobo support was remarkably unhelpful, only ever responding with its Pockets problem and we wont do anything.
Are there any tweaks or workarounds for this? I dont remember having any trouble with my prior Kobo ereader, and I miss being able to dig into 100+ page articles.

Hey all,
I made a bit of a mistake trying to mount various parts of the mtdblock device on Linux and it wrote over the Linux RAM disk magic values here. I'm living in boot land with this:
From 0x00080000 to 0x00280000
Target read size = 0x00200000
Booting image at 31000000
Bad Magic Number
Is someone able to PM me the SD card image for this guy?
If not, I'm downloading an ancient version of the Kobo Desktop application to see if it'll allow me to use the `loadu` command to perform the upgrade. That may work, so here's the link (I lost the original post from this forum):

Thanks!

Did something change in the last update(s) with the mobile browser? Ive been reading some blogs on it which have an annoying side navigation column. Previously, when I first got the Aura ONE and Forma, Id have to pinch zoom into the text, then shift left and right to center the text column.
Yesterday, I accidentally scrubbed the zoom bar at the bottom and it automatically reflowed the body text and resized the font as I scrubbed. Now, there COULD have been a change to how the blog is formatting the page but Im hoping something changed in the browser. I still wish I could override the page font on the fly but Ill settle for this.
By the way, I know the blog doesnt really conform because standard blog page rippers to rebook dont recognize the text blocks.

Originally, problem started with Articles from pocket. Whenever I send an article, open it on kobo and highlight word to see translation, it shows "You don't have English dictionary installed". If I then change dictionary to any other, remove highlight and highlight the word again and change dictionary back to English, it works correctly and shows translation - from now on for any other words as well, without need to highlight the word twice or changing dictionaries. I did some testing with books, and it seems kobo always tries to select dictionary based on book language - so it works correctly when I set english in Calibre, but shows "You don't have <language> dictionary installed" for other languages.
The question is, can you set it so that it always open English dictionary first time you check the word? For books it's not much of a problem, but if you have many small articles, having to higlight the first word twice in every article is bit tedious.

Hi,
'ocdump' backups an internal sdcard/mmc onto the KOBOeReader partition.
because it reads from and write to the same device the performance is
cut by 50%. so be patient, it may take a while.
backing up a device: (uncompressed around 500mb)
1. download or copy the KoboRoot.tgz onto the KOBOeReader/.kobo folder.
2. unplug a device to allow it to update and reboot.
3. then wait until it reboots again.(might take a while)
Supported devices: All Kobo Devices
Enjoy!

I need to download the "Freedom to advanced fonts control" on my Clara HD, but I don't have any programming experience. Some people here pointed me to this post, which lists instructions for doing this:
https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=313422
Is there a detailed more description on this forum of someone installing kobo patches? I wasn't sure what a few of these steps meant. For instance:
Quote:
4. Install the firmware on your kobo BEFORE proceeding with the next steps.
|
Does this mean copying over the file to my kobo directory?
Quote:
5. Enable patches in the files in the src folder (or use the overrides in kobopatch.yaml to keep your options separate).
|
Do I need to tamper with the files inside this folder?
Quote:
6. Run kobopatch.bat on Windows, or kobopatch.sh on Linux.
|
I have a Mac. Can I still do this?

Hi!
I have a kobo aura for some time now, but i dont bring it with me outside home. So, while commuting, i continue reading my books on my android device, but when i switch devices i have to manually search the page i was at.
Is there a way to sync my reading progress between my kobo ereader and any android app with sideloaded ebooks? (sideloaded with calibre).
I have been able to find some information online, but it is a couple of years old, and this was only possible with books purchased from the kobo store. Is that still true?
Thanks!
edit: evermind, just found this thread witht he same question

Hi, i was wondering is it is possible to use some patch to be able to have a clock always visible on the footer (or anywhere) of the page i'm reading?
I know it will only refresh when i update the page, but i would still be useful to me.
thanks.
