Aura ONE How to move database from Kobo Aura One to Kobo Forma

$

Hi there, I bought my Kobo Aura One two years ago, and it works so far so good, and I bought the new released Kobo Forma about one week ago.

I read a lots of ebooks on Kobo Aura One, the data of my books is all on Kobo Aura One, and my new Kobo Forma is empty.

After I login into my account which I'm using on Kobo Aura One on Kobo Forma and sync, the reading hours, count of read books, and awards are all gone, why is that?

The most important thing is, because of some reason, the Kobo Store is unavailable in my country, so all my books are sideloaded onto Kobo Aura One using Calibre, I organize of my books using Calibre (manage metadata, sync reading progress, send books to Kobo device) , and I got a lot of reading data on old Kobo Aura One which including
1. reading status (percentage of reading progress)
2. Activity (reading hours, count of read, and awards)
3. Highlight, bookmarks and Annotation of each book

I tried two ways:
1. Use Calibre to resend all my books into the new Kobo Forma, but it seems all the reading data I listed will be lost
2. Connect both Kobo Aura One and Kobo Forma my my computer, copy the KoboReader.sqlite file of my Kobo Aura One to Kobo Forma directory, and copy all the books on Kobo Aura One to Kobo Forma directly, but after this Kobo Forma will pop up a window "Critical Error: any highlights, notes, or reading progress since your last sync on xx/xx/xxxx will be lost" and once connect my Kobo Forma to Calibre, Calibre cannot recognize the files both in Calibre and in Kobo Forma, and I cannot sync reading progress anymore.

I have read links about database:
https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=284709
http://www.mobileread.mobi/forums/sh...d.php?t=254512
http://www.mobileread.mobi/forums/sh...d.php?t=274637

So for users that own multiple Kobo models, how do you manage the reading data from old model to new model?

Hi,

My Glo HD screen had frozen some month ago. I tought it was dead, the warranty period was over and i opened it to reuse the 4Gb SD card elsewhere, deleting an formatting it.
Since this time, I have seen that i could buy a new replacement screen on Ali_something_very_quick and so i could repair my e-reader (or try to do so :)).
But the problem is that i do not have no more a system SD card available.
Please, does anyone know how to obtain a working system image to dd on a new SD card ?

Best regards

Replacing book ToC

Hey, I looked at this thread https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...ad.php?t=94772 and my issue seems to be similar that when I use Calibres edit book and add updated versions of the book and send it to the device. In this case I still get to see my old ToC but the new book has updated with the contents. This messes up ToC as I heard it was only generated while the book was being imported. Is there any way to update this metadata?

Hi,
I recently purchased a used H2O v1. I am currently running firmware version 4.10.11655 and turning pages are sometimes problematic.(Wont respond and will eventually skip pages) I just wanted to check and see if this is a firmware issue and if so, if anyone can suggest a better firmware version.

Thanks in advance,

Hi,
I have an old nook simple touch with glowlight and I'm considering upgrading to the kobo clara hd. I mainly I read books in Greek. The only problem is that Greek is not supported as a menu language and so no Greek keyboard available (to search within the book for a specific word etc.)
Is there a way to add the Greek keyboard to the reader?

Aura ONE problem in numbering pages of books

Hello,
for a few days, when I start reading a book on my Kobo, the page numbers do not follow at all, at least, at the beginning of the book.
Ex .: page 3, then 6, 9, 19, 34 and then it starts to calm down and the numbers seem to follow each other correctly. When I choose page by chapter and not by book, it works.

I already reboot my e-reader, used Kobo Touch or Kobo Touch Extended, nothing changes.

However, when I read these ebooks on my ipad, no problem.
Would anyone have a solution to offer me?
Thank you in advance,
Donpopo

Glo HD Why does the font for page numbers change?

$

It happens just seldom enough that I convince myself I imagined it and it's all in my head. Or that it might be something with a particular book.

But when getting the exact positioning for the miniclock that I wanted, I was taking screenshots so I could count the pixels for the next try at alignment. And on about the 10th restart with new pixel info the screenshot showed the slightly bolder page numbers, along with the old miniclock Georgia font that previously matched the page numbers.

The most common font for the page numbers that I see is Georgia. I'm not sure what the bolder font is, possibly Amasis? I don't think it will ever pick out and use an extra font that I added (but I could be wrong about that).

I do patch, but I don't change any of the default info within the patches, it's just changing no to yes to the defaults set up. And the nightmode and miniclock patches as well, but this has been happening long before these last 2 patches were ever a thought, and with all firmwares in the past. I'm currently using 4.10.11655.

Any idea why it randomly changes the font used for the page numbers? I don't mind either font, but now with the miniclock, that means at times it won't match the page number font anymore (which I can live with for the convenience of the clock, but it's just bugging me why it's happening).

You can see from the screenshots it's the same exact page of one book, so that pretty much tosses out my idea that something within a book was causing the change. Another oddity that might have something to do with it is that once in awhile after a restart from adding a patch, the formatting on the page changes slightly. See the 3rd screenshot, the font size is still the same, but the pages are shifted slightly. That happened just from adding the KoboRoot.tgz file and rebooting for the miniclock, but that has happened once in awhile long before the miniclock.

At least I know I haven't been imagining it! But any ideas what's causing it and how to keep one font only for the page numbers? Or anyone else ever notice this happening?

These are the patches that I've enabled.

My Forma has lost its mind

$

It started off well. The combination of the light weight, the asymmetrical bezel, and the rubbery surface make it amazingly comfortable to hold, even for my not terribly strong hands. I like my Oasis One but it actually feels too thin and my hands tend to cramp while holding it. I returned my Oasis Two because it seemed heavy, unwieldy, and slippery, and the front edges felt very sharp. The Forma feels just right.

I like fairly wide margins so the stripe, while visible, is no problem for me. The rest of the screen looked fine, with only a slight shift in brightness across the screen.

I loaded a few books from Calibre and read a bit, with and without the case. The power button was inconsistently sluggish but I figured I could live with it. Having to tip the Forma back and forth a couple of times on startup to get the orientation correct was a bit disconcerting, but not a big deal.

The problems began, possibly coincidentally, when I neglected to disable wifi (I usually keep it turned off on all my ereaders) and the latest update downloaded and installed.

The first sign of trouble was that it started freezing intermittently, requiring a soft reset to get it going again.

I thought I’d start again from the beginning so last night I did a factory reset. It went through the update process again and then I signed on and downloaded a few books directly from Kobo (I didn’t connect to the computer at all). Everything looked good but It was late by then so I disabled wifi and put it to sleep.

This morning I woke it up and it seemed fine at first. Until I switched hands and it locked up again. Soft reset. Same thing. Ok, soft reset again and try not switching hands for a while. Hmm, buttons are working but tapping the right side of the screen does nothing. Tapping the left side of the screen brings up the settings bar. I have it set to auto rotate and am holding it upright in portrait orientation. At some level it knows which end is up because the settings bar appears at the top; however at some other level of consciousness it might think it is in landscape mode and being held accordingly because it interprets a left side tap as a top tap? Ok, another soft reset and now it thinks I have no books downloaded. Sync and one book, the one I was reading, reappears. I re-download two more and open one of them. Buttons, fine. Taps, fine. Hold breath, switch hands. Still ok. Turn to landscape. Buttons fine. Top tap, fine. Right tap, fine. Left tap, nothing. Turn other way up, buttons fine, tap top, right, and left, all fine. Try portrait again. Left hand. Buttons fine, top tap nothing, right tap nothing, left tap, settings again. Right hand, all fine. Left hand, total freeze.

I guess it’s time to give up.

System update for Kobo Arc 10HD?

$

I awoke this morning to find a notification on my Kobo Arc 10HD that stated “A system update is now available” and that I should tap here for more information which I did. I was asked whether I wanted to “Update now?” The explanation given for the update was that “We’re releasing a mandatory software update for all Kobo Arc tablets in order to stay aligned with global Internet security standards.”

I am concerned about its legitimacy since the reader is quite old and is currently running a kernel version that is nearly five years old. I thought this reader was long past receiving any updates given its age. Is this update legitimate? Adding to my apprehension is the fact that I recently downloaded a malicious file which I swiftly deleted but perhaps some damage was done to my tablet.

KSM touch driver and rotation test

With each release of a new Kobo reader there arises the challenge to find out whether KSM will work on it, especially whether one of the available touch drivers can be used and which rotation values to set. Therefore I would like to provide a tool that facilitates this process.

Installation (I assume that KSM is not installed on the device):
  • Extract the file KoboRoot.tgz from the uploaded archive and copy it into .kobo of your Kobo reader
  • Eject and disconnect your Kobo reader from the PC
  • Wait until the package is installed and the device restarts

KOBO H20 and Calibre

Hi,

I have a Kobo Aura H20 Edition 2.

When I try to sync with Calibre it takes between 20 an d30 minutes to read what books are on the device.

Onboard storage is 5.2 GB of 6.7 available.

My old Sony reader had the same items on it and it took less than a minute to read what books are on the device.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Time read in Kobo Life

I just got my new ereader.
What a difference from my beloved Glo to the Clara.
Now after syncing with Kobo my new ereader gives a reading time of 17000 hours and 52 books already, just got it an hour ago.
Does some one know where I can reset those counters or just turn them off?
Can't find a solution in my account or on the ereader.

Battery life: leave plugged in or let discharge

I own a lot of Kobo units of various types. My go-to is an original Kobo Aura six-inch, but I've actually got two of those, a Kobo HD, two Kobo Minis, and a Kobo Glo. Some of these go unused for weeks or even months. My question is about best practices for preserving battery longevity (not usage time per charge, but the overall life of the battery itself). Is it better to let an unused unit just slowly discharge on its own until the batter is empty/flat, or to leave that unit plugged into a USB charger (of which I have many; doing that would be no inconvenience)? Thoughts, please? Many thanks!

The highlight function on Kobo Forma is difficult to use

$

When I bought my Kobo Aura One two years ago, on the first few versions of firmware, highlight function is terrible, I have to try several times to highlight a sentence (all my files are .kepub.epub format converted using Calibre plugin), I was furious and wanted to smash it with a hammer for several times. I'm not joking.

After installing a new firmware, the highlight function seemed fine, but it was far away from being good, especially speed and accuracy, they were terrible. And now, it is still not good to use, it is just usable (v4.10.11655).

I bought Kobo Forma two weeks ago, and noticed that the highlight function on Kobo Forma is a little different, maybe it is designed like this, maybe it is just a bug, that is, when I long tap the screen and move my finger to select a sentence to highlight, and since the function of highlight of kobo is not good to use, I cannot see the ending point before I let my finger go, it is very easy that I didn't highlight the whole sentence or highlight more words which I don't want, so like usual, I would tweak the highlight part, tap the highlight part again, then there will be two pointer at both sides of the highlight, I can just move the pointer for more or less words. This is usable on Kobo Aura One, but unusable at all on Kobo Forma, I have to delete the highlight and do the highlight from the beginning.

So my question is about the speed, accuracy and tweak the highlight on Kobo Forma.

Kobo developers really don't care about the highlight function?

Kobo Forma front light malfunction within a week...

I received my Forma 32G from Japan on this Monday
It had no issue except the light stripe
However, a blue area appears on the screen today when I turn on the front light
The machine has official cover to protect it and I only use it in my room.
I have tried manual factory reset twice but nothing changed.
It seems like I have to contact Kobo for international service now. :(
This is my first Kobo eReader and the purchase is quite frustrating...

Are there additionnal reading statistics available while looking in the databases?

$

Hello!

I am especially interessed in finding a way to see how much time I have spent which day (or which session) and how many pages I read which day (or which session), ideally for every book independently.
I don't think everything is stored indefinitely, but since some statistics such as the average session time for every book and the amount of pages per minutes are made available, I think that information such as a list of the sessions for each book, including the timestamp of the beginning of the session and the timestamp of the end of the session, and the page number for both, should be stored.

Were is stored this information? Can I read it from a database (for example in .kobo/something.db) ??

Thanks in advance !!
