Getting Started with H20

Thought I would cover some basic set up for the H20 to help other people get started.

1) If you ordered from Kobo it creates an account for you, and I had to sign in to it with another computer and update some information, including password, then restart the H20.

2) Calibre was easy to use with basic step by step instructions. I liked these.

3) I would create one file for original downloaded book files. I named mine "downloaded books" Then copy those to another file, I named "books" with subfiles for each format.

4) Follow instructions, click add book in Calibre, locate book format in your "books" file. Calibre will make a copy and put that in the Calibre file. I named that one "Calibre File" and it ask you to set up the location for that file when you start Calibre. I have all of those files in "documents".

This way you will have the original files incase the others get corrupted in the Calibre file.

5) Had no problem converting and sending the book file to the H20. Its a two step process. Simply click "convert" and choose ePub up at the right top corner and it converts it. Then click "send to device" and it automatically sends to H20. That's it.

6) I installed two patches that corrupted the book files. One was to get ride of the DMR file that was suggested but think this was the culprit and had a bug.

This one was a manual install. Click on preferences, then change calibre behavior, then the plug in, then add plug ins. That's the way to install plugins.

The other was to convert to kepub that was already loaded in Calibre plug ins so only had to activate it.

At any rate, when I tried to convert one of the book formats again to kepub, (click convert, choose kepub from top right corner) the H20 then said the DRM was outdate on two books that were open source and free download.

Finally I had to download an app remover to (app cleaner for macs) to remove all of the Caibre program, deleted all of the book files in the Calibre file, and reset the H20 to factory default, then redownload Caibre to get rid of the plugins.

Hope this helps. For now just do the basic conversion with Calibre. I'm not sure which plug in was buggy. Keep a separate file for your original book formats.

The H20 is awesome. I just wanted to share some basic setup and conversion.
Feel free to add some basic tips and advice! Or if something works for you!
